This poster summarizes my team's research last summer at Lehigh University on the feasibility of nuclear fusion as an energy source. We examined technical aspects as well as economic, political, and environmental repercussions of the technology. I developed a questionnaire to assess public opinions of fusion programs and secured 40 participants to take the survey. My team's project, which includes this summarized poster, a formal presentation, a handout, and an abstract, won first place in the competition among the ten teams at the Summer Engineering Institute. I had little knowledge of fusion before starting the project, but after an intense month of research, discussions, and interviews, I now consider myself an expert on the topic. Surprisingly, though, my favorite part wasn't the physics behind the reactors. In reality, I discovered a new passion in analyzing the implications this technology has on us.
